TRCSL approves Airtel Lanka suspension of 3G network

They state that TRCSL has approved the complete shutdown of the Airtel 3G network by 2022/06/04. Accordingly, Airtel operates only 4G in Sri Lanka and users of 3G devices will have to migrate to 4G devices.

After shutting down 3G, they will be able to fully switch to 4G with better speeds. Airtel Lanka has been given a 15-month time frame for this, and within that time they should be able to absorb at least 90% of their network to 4G.

Airtel has also been instructed to offer 4G phones at a discount to its users.
